A gas strut or gas spring, is a very simple yet effective tool which functions like a kinetic spring. It differs as it is able to compress or extend by moving a piston to compress nitrogen gas. This forms a closed energy system where no additional gas or fuel is required for the system to function.

After approximately 5 years of use with a gas strut, their effectivenesss starts to reduce. This is simply because continuous use dispels the nitrogen stored in the strut. Re-gassing is simply the process of restoring functionality of a gas strut by injecting new nitrogen gas into the system.
